Tile installation

Porcelain tiles on an interior concrete floor

Dry-interior installation for porcelain tiles up to 600 × 600 mm on cured, SR1-flat concrete using Super Grip, Super Acrylic and Perla grout.

Intended outcome

Porcelain floor tiles up to 600 × 600 mm bonded to dry, cured and suitably flat concrete using a primed Bauer system, followed by Perla grout.

Confirm before starting

  • Tileporcelain tile up to 600 × 600 mm within this guide. Larger formats require separate system confirmation.
  • Concretecured for more than 4 weeks, dry, rigid and free from rising damp, curing compounds, dust, grease and loose material.
  • Flatnessmaximum 3 mm deviation under a 2 m straightedge (SR1); better than SR1 is preferred for 600 × 600 mm tiles.
  • Movement jointspreserve structural and perimeter joints. Provide movement joints at approximately 25 m² and every 8 m in long narrow interior areas.

Installation sequence

  1. Adhesion primer

    Super Grip

Ensure the concrete is fully cured, dry, clean and free from curing compounds, dust, grease and other contamination. Apply Super Grip at the dilution required for the concrete to control absorption and create a consistent prepared surface. For dense or poorly absorbent concrete, dilute one part Super Grip with one part clean water and apply one coat by brush, roller or spray.

The 1:1 dilution applies to dense or poorly absorbent concrete, not universally to every concrete surface.

  2. Tile adhesive

    Super Acrylic

Mix one 25 kg bag with approximately 6.5 L clean water at under 300 rpm. Rest 2-3 minutes and remix for 30 seconds. Key a thin coat into the concrete, then comb straight parallel ribs with a suitable notched trowel. Use a 2-6 mm bed; 12 mm is permitted only in limited localised areas. Back-butter each 600 × 600 mm tile, press with a sliding action and lift occasional tiles to verify at least 70% adhesive contact.

Timing: Pot life is approximately 4 hours and open time up to 30 minutes. Fix before skin forms and wait at least 24 hours before floor grouting.

    Important

    • Do not add more than 10% above the stated water quantity or retemper material that has begun to set.
  3. Tile grout

    Perla

Clean the 1-15 mm joints, then mix one 5 kg bag of Perla with approximately 1.5 L clean water. Fill diagonally with a rubber float. After 1-1.5 hours, clean diagonally with a damp sponge; polish remaining haze with a soft cloth after curing.

Timing: Pot life is approximately 1.5 hours. The grouted floor is ready for use after approximately 3 days.

    Important

    • Wear gloves and eye protection when mixing and applying cementitious products.

Not covered by this guide

  • Tiles larger than 600 × 600 mm, natural stone, exterior work, showers, wet areas, heated floors and heavy-traffic installations.
  • Concrete younger than 4 weeks, rising damp, active shrinkage, contamination or surface deviation greater than 3 mm over 2 m.
  • Grout joints narrower than 1 mm or wider than 15 mm.
