Tile installation
Tiling over existing ceramic tiles
Dry-interior tile-over-tile installation using Super Grip followed by Bauflex Fiber.
Intended outcome
A sound tile-over-tile installation prepared with Super Grip and fixed with Bauflex Fiber.
- Substrate
- Ceramic tile
- Environment
- Dry interior
Confirm before starting
- Existing tilesmust be firmly bonded to a stable substrate capable of supporting the new installation. Remove loose or hollow-sounding tiles before proceeding.
- Surface conditionclean, dry and free from polish, wax, grease, dust or other bond-breaking contamination.
- Loose materialremove loose material and detached fragments before priming.
Installation sequence
Adhesion primer
Super Grip
Prime the clean existing tile surface with Super Grip diluted one part product to one part clean water. Apply one coat by brush, roller or spray.
Important
- Do not use the primer to compensate for an unstable, contaminated or damp substrate.
Tile adhesive
Bauflex Fiber
For walls, use approximately 7.5 L clean water per 25 kg bag or 1.5 L per 5 kg bag; for floors, use 8 L per 25 kg or 1.6 L per 5 kg. Add the powder gradually while mixing below 300 rpm until lump-free. Rest for 2-3 minutes, remix, then key in a thin coat and comb straight parallel ribs. Use a 2-6 mm bed; up to 15 mm is permitted only in limited localised areas. Press tiles into place before skin forms and lift occasional tiles to verify at least 70% adhesive contact with no voids. Back-butter large or heavy tiles.
Timing: Pot life is approximately 5 hours and open time up to 30 minutes. Grout walls after 4-6 hours and floors after 24 hours under stated conditions.
Important
- Discard adhesive that has begun to set; never restore it by adding water.
Tile type, size, weight, background capacity, bed coverage and movement joints must suit the proposed installation.

Not covered by this guide
- Showers, swimming pools and other wet conditions require waterproofing products outside the selected product range.
- Do not use this workflow for metal, painted surfaces, plywood walls, moisture-sensitive natural stone, or glass/metal tiles with water-sensitive backing.
- Do not proceed where the existing finish is loose, the background cannot carry the new tiling, or rising damp is present.
